Are you providing care to a loved one? Dou sometimes feel overwhelmed, isolated, depressed or frustrated? Please know that you are not alone!
Recent studies estimate that between 18 and 25 million people, more than 10% of the adult population, provides care to another family member. Most caregivers do not even consider themselves a caregiver. Caregiving is a personal commitment of love, time and compassion to someone in your life.
The single most important issure facing caregivers is their ability to deal with STRESS created by the demanding aspect of providing care. Most caregivers have full time jobs, have other family members who still require their time and attention, and most often do not live with the person to whom they are providing care. Finding a way to deal with it all can create high levels of stress. How well the caregiver learns how to recognize and deal with stress is essential for the well being of both the caregiver and care receiver.
Caregivers must remember to take care of themselves. So often caregivers place their needs, both physical and spiritual, on the back burner and often find themselves totally burnt out. Please join us at our monthly Family Caregiver Support Group. We meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm at the Hudson Valley Senior Residence, 80 Washington Ave., Kingston, NY (845)-331-0630.
